Monica Fernandez      mo-arts

Since completing a MA in Photography at De Montfort University in 2004, Monica’s work has been exhibited and commissioned by several international galleries and organisations. In early 90’s she discovered the magic of photography attending to some experimental workshops lead by Joan Fontcuberta. Winning a double Spanish award Fotomuestra in 1995 encouraged Monica to move to England to pursuit her photographic career.

Monica set up her photography studio mo-arts in the year 2000 thanks to a business grant received from The Prince's Trust. Since then mo-arts have been involved in the creation, consultation and delivery of over 50 art projects including exhibitions, licensing, public art, design and community work.  Commissioners and partners of the mo-art’s portfolio include the BBC, BEAM - Arts People Places (Sheffield), local authorities, national and international galleries.

As an independent and socially engaged artist, Monica has been exploring the subject of women’s identity since 2010 through major projects such as Domestic Glamour and Look At Me - representing age.

After many years living in Leicester, Monica now lives in Oakham, at the heart of England, where she now bases her studio and family. She has fully enjoyed working locally for the past year in a set of murals commissioned by Oakham Town Council called Now Then at Gaol Street.

Monica would like to thank especially Arts Council England for all their previous support.
